SIREWALL alongside deep-green builders at Living Future 2012 UnConference
Veteran insulated rammed earth builders to exhibit May 2 – 4 in Portland, OR

The U.S. Green Building Council’s CASCADIA Region has created a unique approach to its annual member event. Its “unconference” attracts deep-green professionals and invites experts who impart a different way of viewing our built environment, aiming to shift global consciousness toward the change we all wish to see in the world. SIREWALL Founder and veteran green builder Meror Krayenhoff is pleased to participate again this year to showcase his insulated rammed earth technology that is transforming the built environment.
Stabilized, Insulated Rammed Earth: SIREWALL, is a structural wall system typically 18″ to 24″ thick, stabilized with compacted earth and rebar, with 4″ of rigid insulation hidden in the centre of the wall. Eye-catching, the SIREWALLS are a complete wall system with the strength and beauty of sedimentary sandstone. This distinctive, visceral connection to the earth is also the exterior and interior finish of a SIREWALL building – no sealants, siding or drywall required. These high performance walls are constructed with a system backed by twenty years of R&D, producing thermal mass and efficiency beyond any other wall system.
Not only has SIREWALL been prominently featured in the new VanDusen Botanical Gardens Visitors Centre in Vancouver and the Nk’ Mip Desert Cultural Centre in Osoyoos, BC, SIREWALL also has been designed into numerous award-winning residential projects. At Living Future, experts from SIREWALL will meet with like-minded delegates to talk about the unique SIREWALL System and twenty-year history building across British Columbia, the Pacific Northwest and around the globe.
“The innovative seminar formats and range of visionary businesses featured at Living Future draws leading minds in the green building movement”, says SIREWALL Founder Meror Krayenhoff. “I am glad to attend again this year and continue the conversations around innovations and new approaches to addressing ecologic and social challenges. We welcome discussions on how SIREWALL can be designed into residential and commercial projects as a resilient solution to rise above these challenges.”
Living Future delegates will also be able to take advantage of a special offer from SIREWALL. If booked by May 15, 2012 delegates will save a $100 on a SIREWALL weekend course on Salt Spring Island, BC.
With its ecological and health benefits, combined with beauty, durability and energy efficiency, SIREWALLS are ideal for residential homes and buildings that will create a lasting legacy.

SIREWALLS are stabilized, insulated, rammed earth walls. SIREWALL’s engineered sandstone is constructed with a matrix of local soils and cement surrounding a core of insulation. SIREWALL is inorganic and therefore does not require chemical sealants or treatments. It is long lasting, rot resistant, fire resistant, and non-toxic. No other green building approach delivers this combination of ecological and health benefits. From a dream home or cottage to a winery or cultural centre, SIREWALL builds beautiful walls that are legacies for future generations.
