Award-Winning Insulated Rammed Earth Builder Joins Living Future "Unconference" in Portland

May 4, 2009

The U.S. Green Building Council’s CASCADIA Region has created a unique approach to its annual member event. Its "unconference" attracts deep-green professionals and invites experts who impart a different way of viewing our built environment, aiming to shift global consciousness toward the change we all wish to see in the world.

To participate in Living Future’s "Red List Ready" trade show, exhibitors must meet certain criteria, vetting applicants to ensure their products or services do not contain certain "worst in class" materials, chemicals and elements that pose serious risks to human health and the greater ecosystem.

SIREWALL will undoubtedly command attention from top architects and green builders as a Red List Ready trade show exhibitor. SIREWALL’s attractive lines, stunning hues and award-winning projects will turn heads. Conference attendees will ask themselves… where have I seen this mysterious beauty before? SIREWALL was featured in a project, the Nk’Mip Desert Cultural Centre, recently recognized at the 2008 World of Architecture Festival, winning the Holiday Category.

"The Nk’Mip Desert Culture Centre is located in the most endangered landscape in Canada… North America’s largest rammed-earth wall gives the building exterior a unique material and poetic sensibility. At 80m long, 5.5m high, and 600mm thick, this insulated wall (R33) stabilizes temperature variations. Its graduated layers of earth evoke geological sedimentation within a distinctly contemporary architectural language."WorldBuildingsDirectory.com

Stabilized, Insulated Rammed Earth, SIREWALL, is typically 18" to 24" thick, stabilized with rebar and has 4" of rigid insulation hidden in the centre of the wall. These eye-catching walls have the strength and beauty of sedimentary sandstone inside and out, with hidden insulation in the middle. SIREWALLS have a distinctive, visceral connection to the earth that are not only stunning focal points, they are solid foundations with thermal mass beyond any other.

SIREWALL Founder, Meror Krayenhoff, will attend Living Future alongside Sam Rodell of earthwall rammed earth, a Spokane-based SIREWALL Licensee and award-winning architect (Kirwood Rodell Architects). With its ecological and health benefits, combined with beauty and durability, SIREWALLS are ideal for commercial buildings and residential homes that will create a lasting legacy.
